Welcome to qtPhDs @ MIT! We are a group that serves the LGBTQIA+ community of postdoctoral scholars, associates, fellows, and researchers at MIT.
For information about our upcoming events, see our Contact Us page to join our mailing list or check out our News section.
Do you fall within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, and are a Postdoc at MIT? If so, you probably have a lot on your plate. You could be figuring out your identity, perhaps you’re trying to figure out this whole research thing, or thinking about which career to pursue. Maybe you are new to the Boston area, or to the United States. Or, are you an ally looking to support this dynamic group of people at MIT? Whoever you are, welcome!
If you want to help foster an inclusive environment on campus, for students and staff, you’ve come to the right place. You may also want to just unwind from your busy schedule for a little bit, and hang out with folks that are in the same boat as you.
We here at qtPhDs @ MIT aim to serve the LGBTQIA+ postdoctoral community at MIT. We welcome everyone across the spectrum of sexuality and gender identities, and founded this group with the understanding that Postdocs have specific experiences that are not covered by other LGBTQIA+ groups on campus. We hope to offer something for everyone, such as:
- Inclusive teaching workshops
- Social events
- Professional development
- Solidarity, support, and advocacy
In addition to special events, we hold a coffee hour on the first Monday of every month at 2pm (outside or in the Rainbow Lounge, learn more by joining our mailing list by e-mailing "qtphds-owner@mit.edu"), serving cookies, tea, and coffee. We hope to see you there!
Additionally, we hold a social hour on the third Thursday of every month at 6 pm (location varies, learn more by joining our mailing list by e-mailing "qtphds-owner@mit.edu"), where we socialize at a local restaurant. We hope to see you there!
COVID Safety: As the weather allows, we will continue to hold events outdoors. As the winter becomes more hostile, we will follow current MIT guidelines to hold safe indoor events.
qtPhDs is sponsored by the MIT Postdoctoral Association, in part through the PDA Postdoc Initiative Grant. If you have an idea that benefits the MIT community, consider applying for the fund!
