September 2023 Newsletter

September 1, 2023

Hello qtPhDs,

Welcome to a new academic year!

Coffee Hour

We will be hosting our September Coffee Hour next week on Monday, August 11th at 2 pm at Area 4 (500 Technology Square, Cambridge, MA 02139). Come enjoy coffee or tea and pastries with us! We will be sitting outside, weather permitting, to enjoy the sun’s warmth while we have it. Please sign up here for us to get a sense of who to expect to see.

Call for New Leadership

We are immensely proud of our work building the qtPhDs community during the last two years. The time has come for us to step aside and allow a new generation of postdocs to lead the qtPhDs community with a fresh perspective.

Leading qtPhDs entails organizing monthly social events, and also provides opportunities to interface with the administration and other groups on campus. In our time as co-leads, we have been invited to meet with the president of MIT and the head of the ICEO; to participate in hiring committees and working groups; and organized lots of events together with the Postdoc Association, the Rainbow Lounge, QStaff, LGBTQ Grad, and more!

We are now welcoming interested members of our community to nominate themselves for leadership of this wonderful group by e-mailing us by September 21st. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or to hear more details! We will keep the community informed during this process.

Check out events at the Rainbow Lounge here! Details on two upcoming programs (a leadership retreat and mentorship program) are attached.

As always, we are happy to hear from you!

Warmly,

Senén and Rachel

*Each month we will be featuring a different pride flag in our logo! Our flag of the month is the Bisexual Pride Flag, designed by Michael Page in 1998. The flag features a fuchsia stripe to represent opposite gender attraction, an indigo stripe to represent same gender attraction and a purple stripe to represent attraction regardless of gender.
