qtPhDs newsletter: Oct 2022

October 1, 2022

Hi qtPhDs,

Happy October! We hope you are enjoying the beautiful crisp autumn days!

After work and coffee events

We will hold our October after-work event next week, on Thursday, Oct 27th at 5:30pm, at Artifact Cider in Central Square (location). Come have a delicious apple cider with us to celebrate fall and Halloween week! Please RSVP by Wednesday, Oct 26th.

Next month, save the date for another coffee hour, Monday Nov 7th at 2pm at Area 4. We will send a reminder beforehand!

Boston area LGBTQIA+ postdoc meetup

We would like to organize a joint meeting with LGBTQIA+ postdocs at other Boston-area institutions! If any of you have any contacts at local universities, or would like to help organize this, please let us know!

As always, we are happy to hear from you at qtphds-admin@mit.edu (or at our personal emails!).

Warmly,

Senén and Rachel

*Each month we will be featuring a different pride flag in our logo! Our flag of the month is the lesbian pride flag, introduced on Tumblr by Emily Gwen in 2018 (originally with 7 stripes, now often with 5). The colors include dark orange for gender non-conformity, orange for independence, light orange for community, white for unique relationships to womanhood, pink for serenity and peace, dusty pink for love and sex, and dark rose for femininity. Other flags used in the lesbian community include the labrys (double-bitted ax) flag, the lipstick flag, and more– more info here.
