November 1, 2023

Hello qtPhDs,

We hope you are enjoying cozy evenings as the temperatures outside start to drop.

Coffee Hour

We will be hosting a Coffee Hour for the month of November next Monday, November 20th after the Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil, a little after 1 PM at Area 4 (500 Technology Square, Cambridge, MA 02139). Come enjoy coffee or tea and pastries with us! We will take advantage of Area 4’s heaters to sit outside for the continued safety and health of our community. Please sign up here for us to get a sense of who to expect to see.

Call for New Leadership

We are immensely proud of our work building the qtPhDs community during the last two years. The time has come for us to step aside and allow a new generation of postdocs to lead the qtPhDs community with a fresh perspective.

Leading qtPhDs entails organizing monthly social events, and also provides opportunities to interface with the administration and other groups on campus. In our time as co-leads, we have been invited to meet with the president of MIT and the head of the ICEO; to participate in hiring committees and working groups; and organized lots of events together with the Postdoc Association, the Rainbow Lounge, QStaff, LGBTQ Grad, and more!

We are now welcoming interested members of our community to nominate themselves for leadership of this wonderful group by e-mailing us. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or to hear more details! We will keep the community informed during this process.

*Each month we will be featuring a different pride flag in our logo! Our flag of the month is the Intersex flag, created in 2013 by Morgan Carpenter of Intersex Human Rights Australia. The yellow and purple colors were chosen for their lack of gender associations. The purple circle represents wholeness, completeness, and the potentialities of intersex people. more info here
